Club starts new Ukraine aid project

The Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley are stepping up their efforts to help as many Ukrainian families as possible prepare for the onset of next winter.

Club members were shocked by recent stories of Ukrainian suffering in the continuing war against Russia and decided to do something to help.

They are now staging their second collection of family and household goods ready for shipping out to the Ukraine in September or October.

Peter Oddy, President of the Haworth & Worth Valley Club, explained: “Like everybody else we were appalled by the suffering of Ukrainian families after recent Russian missile attacks and wanted to do something to help.

“In 2022 we staged a collection of goods for mothers and babies, and they were sent to Ukrainian Rotary Clubs for delivery to those who needed the most help.

“Now we are going back into action and we’re appealing to our communities, not just in the Worth Valley but also in Keighley and District, to be as generous as they can to help Ukrainian communities who are suffering so badly.”

The Rotarians are appealing for donations of children’s supplies, adult clothing, bedding and towels, toiletries and other miscellaneous goods such as dried food, candle wax, water purifying tablets and paracetamol.

The collection will be staged at Haworth Masonic Hall on Saturday, September 7th from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

Added Peter: “To make shipping easier we’re asking that if you can make donations that all items should be either new or clean and to ensure that the goods are wrapped and tied, labelled with their contents and weighed.

“Also, we can only accept donations of items that included on the requirement list which is published below.”

You can also make a cash donation to this appeal.

“We’d like to thank the Haworth Freemasons for their generous assistance in enabling us to stage this collection.
