Your full guide to the 2024 Santa Fun Run

The Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley will be staging their third annual Santa Fun Run around Haworth Park on Sunday, December 1st, starting at 11.00an.

The event is run as part of the Christmas in Haworth programme and the Rotarians pride themselves on creating a ‘fun’, non-competitive event that provides something that all the family can take part in.

Our first Santa Fun run was staged very successfully in 2022 but, unfortunately, inclement weather conditions forced the event to be run seven days later than planned in 2023 with a subsequent reduction in the number of entrants.

The event is run by the Rotarians in support of the Charitable Trust and the funds are directed through to the club’s ground-breaking Community Grant Scheme (CGS).

After providing two successful rounds of grants to the smaller community charities in the Worth Valley who find grant funding tough to source, the Trust is now trying to raise enough money to fund a third round.

Club President Peter Oddy said: “Our first scheme was designed to help those community groups that had made it through Covid to survive. We succeeded in that ambition and that encouraged us to keep the CGS scheme going.”

As in 2022 this year’s Fun Run will be staged entirely in Haworth Central Park with the runners being asked to complete ten laps of the park’s pathway system.

And Fun Run leader Past President Gary Gardner estimates that if the runners complete all ten laps then they will have covered five kilometres! But there’s no pressure to complete the whole course, you can drop out at any time!

For 2024 the start and finish point will be adjacent to the Haworth Bowling Club pavilion at the Butt Lane entrance to the park.

People of of all ages are able to take part and all the Rotary Club asks that people are fit enough to run and wear suitable clothing taking into consideration the weather conditions on the day. Runners are also asked to wear suitable footwear bearing mind the winter weather can often make conditions more slippery under foot.

The organisers will do all in their power to ensure that the paths are safe enough on which to run but runners can help by wearing appropriate shoes/ trainers.

For the 2024 Santa Fun if you pre-register prior to the day there will be a modest entry fee of £5 per adult, £2.50 for one child and a family entry (two adults and two children) costing £12.50.

Entry on the day costs £6 for an adult, £3 for a child and the family entry will cost £14. You can check into the Registration Desk in the Haworth Bowling Club pavilion near the Butt Lane entrance from 10.00am on the day and light refreshments will be available at the Bowling Club.

This year the Rotary Club is offering for sale to runners Santa Suits and hats. See details below.

As the whole aim is to raise funds for the club’s Community Grant Scheme we are encouraging as many runners as possible to get themselves sponsored – hopefully for the full five kilometres.

If you arrange sponsorship – we’re suggesting a £1 per lap or a fixed amount for completing the whole distance – you’ll have the satisfaction of having fun and helping other organisations in the Worth Valley at the same time.

Purchasing options

It is recommended to pre-order your suits and hats from our Santa store as stocks are strictly  limited.

Santa Suits

Wearing a Santa suit is recommended to add to the fun of the run and to the spectacle of many Santa’s running in a pack.

This year children under 16 are able to wear a Santa hat instead of the suit as we have a strictly limited number of   children’s suits  available for purchase

The Course

To complete the five kilometre distance, a runner will need to complete ten laps, but it’s perfectly acceptable to drop out after completing fewer laps.

Health & Safety

Health & Safety

Please ensure that you are appropriately dressed for the occasion and wear sensible footwear. The paths in the park will be inspected and cleared of any debris before the event.

The route will be marshalled and signposted throughout and first aiders will be on hand to deal with minor injuries.

In the event of an incident please go immediately to one of the marshals (who will be wearing high viz vests) and they will summon the appropriate help.

Toilets are located next to the Bridgehouse Lane, Rawdon Road entrance of the park will be available for use

Sponsorship

We encourage runners to gain sponsorship from work  colleagues, friends, and family. You can either make a single       donation to cover your run (£20) or gain sponsorship from friends and family based on the number of laps you complete. You will be credited with 10 laps if you complete the 5Km.

As an example, asking five people to sponsor you for just £1 per lap will yield a total of £25 if they complete the course.

Sponsorship forms will be available along with your completion certificate from the Registration / check in desk at the completion of your run.
