Former Club President Peter Wharton dies.

It is with great sadness that we announce that former Club President and serving club secretary Peter Wharton died this week.

Peter, who had endured poor health for some months, had served as Club Secretary for several years and was still in office when he passed away.

The club marked his passing with a period of silence at Tuesday’s joint meeting with neighbours, The Rotary Club of Keighley, at Newsholme Manor, Oakworth.

Past President John Huxley said: “Peter was a well respected and liked member of our club and we shall miss him and his gentle humour and calm demeanour. We have sent our condolences to Hilary and the rest of the Wharton family.”

A retired Chartered Patent Attorney, Peter was a talented musician and must be one of the few Rotarians to have appeared on the same bill as The Beatles.

As a guitar player from Liverpool he played in a group and they were indeed a support act at a Beatles concert in Liverpool before before ‘The Fab Four’. hit the big time.

Besides being a member of Rotary with the Haworth & Worth Valley Club, Peter was an active member of the University of the Third Age movement in Skipton.
