Founder member Margaret honoured
One of the founder members of the Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley, Margaret Hammond, has been elected as an Honorary Member in recognition of not only her service to our club but Rotary both nationally and internationally.
Margaret, who was made a Paul Harris Fellow for her service to Rotary in our little corner of West Yorkshire as well as for her philanthropy, was one of the band who established the Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley back in 1999 when it was still relatively new for clubs to admit women as members.
Since then she has served the club in many roles including as President while making a contribution to the life of Rotary in Yorkshire.
Margaret is no longer able to attend meetings regularly and so the presentation of her Honorary Membership was made by the club’s longest-serving member, Past President John Huxley PHF, at her residence.
John said: “Margaret is a much respected and loved member of the Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley so our members had no hesitation in electing her as an Honorary Member.
“It ensures that she can stay in contact with the members of the club and can continue taking an interest in the club’s activities within the community.”
